How I Will Take Care of Myself This Fall Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNT chapter.

Recently, I have had the urge to start really taking care of myself throughout the stresses of my college classes. I have had to go to class every day – which really makes it hard to do my self-care. I can only seem to focus on my school work, which is great but not so great when I am putting it before my mental health.

Being back in face-to-face classes has made my college experience seem normal. However, I really miss zoom classes. With online classes, I had more time to take care of myself, have a long lunch, and take a break. Now it feels like everything is being rushed, and I need to skip taking care of myself so I can keep up with my class attendance grade.

Recently, I feel the need to start a routine where I can take care of myself while also still making time for school.

  • Waking up early

Waking up at 7:00-7:30 a.m will be my goal for the rest of the semester. Waking up at this time will help me get in the habit of completing my tasks a bit early in the morning because I tend to sleep in and procrastinate. I can use this time to stretch, eat breakfast, scroll through social media, and even get a little extra homework done.

  • Taking time after class to finish assignments

After class, I tend to feel drained and exhausted. This makes me go home and lay in bed, further procrastinating on what I need to accomplish by the end of the week. I should spend my time finishing my homework instead of waiting until 9 p.m when I am even more tired to do my work.

  • Make new friends

I have joined more organizations on campus than I did last semester because of Covid-19. With joining new orgs comes new friends. I am going to start reaching out to more people who are in the new orgs I have joined. I will be doing this to create new connections with people who share a similar interest that I do.

  • Treat myself like a queen

Lastly, I have been doubting myself a lot this new semester and I believe I should put an end to that. I should be treating myself like my own best friend. This means taking myself out on dates, getting healthier and happier, and overall doing what I think is best for myself this fall.
