Planning dates can be extremely stressful when you have no idea where to go. Googling different restaurants seems to be the way to go, but could get repetitive and boring after a while. Especially if you’re new to the Peoria area, it can be even more challenging. Here’s my guide to some of my go-to places for dates with my boyfriend or recommendations I have heard from my friends.

CYd’s in the park

Cyd’s in the Park is a great to-go not only for their great menu, but the venue. Cyd’s is the perfect place for a lunch when the weather is nice, or even a bit chilly. Their outside patio is beautiful and they even have fireplaces all around the tables for extra warmth. If the weather is a little too cold for you, Cyd’s will even provide you with a blanket! Though a little pricey, it is definitely worth it when it comes to the food and drinks.

Jimmy’s Bar

I might be a little bias because this is where I met my boyfriend, but Jimmy’s Bar is one of my favorite date locations for those 21+. Jimmy’s staff is exceptional and serve the best drinks. If the bar scene is something you and your significant other enjoy, I recommend coming here during the day or a week night when it is not so busy. You can chill out at the bar, enjoy a drink or two, eat popcorn or Irish nachos, and have a good conversation.

Blue Duck/Martinis On the Water

Blue duck is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Peoria. I highly recommend the chicken nachos, Lorraine burger, and homemade pickles. You can dine either inside or outside as well. Before or after eating there, you can head right next door to Martinis for a drink- the two places are connected! The inside of Martinis is extremely unique as it used to be a train station. They have a lounge area, a pool table, and sometimes bands. When the weather is nice or even a little cool, the patio is amazing. There are couches and tables on the patio, and also fire places. Bands sometimes play outside and when they do, there’s even an outside bar.

Grandview/Peoria heights

If you and your significant other are into nature and walking, Grandview is the best place to go for a walk, to talk, or take pictures. It’s extremely relaxing and a breathtaking sight. After your walk, you can head over about a mile to the restaurants or bars in Peoria Heights. The patio connecting Pour Bros, Brienzo’s Pizza, and Water’s Edge is the perfect location to hang out when the weather is nice. Nearby are some other fan favorites such as 12 Bar, Cayenne, and Sullivan’s.

Storm shelter

Storm Shelter bar and grill is a hidden gem. It is located right on the Illinois River and has an amazing deck looking right over the water. If you’re into small dive bars with great food, this is definitely the place for you. I recommend coming here on a warm day to sit outside and enjoy one of the Storm Shelter’s signature cocktails. Just a warning- be cautious of the 32 oz margaritas!

8 Bit beer arcade

If you and your significant other are into having game night dates, this is the bar for you! There are all sorts of games to play while enjoying a drink. This is a perfect place to go if you want change up the chill vibes and do something with a little excitement. Challenging your significant other can make it even more fun!
