Top 5 College Clothing Must Haves from a Fifth Year Fashion Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bowling Green chapter.

For some, Fall 2021 is the first semester of college for some students that they actually will be attending in person, regardless of their class status. With that being said, unlike high school, college is a completely different wheelhouse… even outside of academics! So from a fifth year college fashion student, here are five clothing necessities that you as a student may want to add to your Amazon Prime Student wishlist:

Tennis Shoes with Good Support

Believe me when I say, you will be walking a good amount on campus. I have had the same comfy pair of black Nikes since Fall 2017, and they have lasted for SUCH a long time! Finding a pair that also has memory foam built in is by far the best and comfiest choice you can make.

Rain Jacket and Rain Boots

This may seem like such a trivial combo to bring with you, and yes, you may feel a bit dorky with this combo. However, it’s almost always so helpful to own. Who wants to sit in their lecture for an hour with wet clothes and wet socks from rain? The answer: nobody.

Long Winter Coat

Winters in east coast college towns are brutal, and that is a kind way of putting it. With icy cold winds that could just about knock you off your feet when hitting your shins, you’re going to want that extra length in a lined winter coat to protect your legs. (No amount of layers on your bottom can protect you from this wind… believe me I know.)

Joggers

What’s better than sitting in class in leggings? That’s right: sitting in class with some oversized joggers. Not only are they stylish, but they also are very comfy and sold so cheap basically anywhere. I can almost guarantee you’ll start off with a black or gray pair and then graduate to bolder colors because you can’t get enough of the comfy-factor. Plus, they can be dressed up or down however you would like. We love a good, versatile piece.

Backpack with a Built-In Laptop Holder

Take it from the person who carried around their laptop their first semester in a simple Vera Bradley tote: you will break your laptop somehow with no protection what-so-ever. Whether it be damage from impact or weather related, you will want a backpack that has a protective layer that may even protect it from your books (because those guys are massive for no good reason). Backpacks like this are a lot more common than you think, and come in so many cute and trendy style options. It is so worth it and you will be able to stand out with your backpack or fit into the trendsetting students category. Either way: get that bag, sis!
