SABRE x Her Campus

Here’s How to Stay Safe All Semester Long with SABRE

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Being a busy college student, there’s always a ton on your to-do list – between classes and club meetings; homework and laundry; and gym time and grocery shopping. However, no matter how long your to-do lists are, or how busy you get, your safety should always be a top priority. That’s why you should add SABRE Safety products to your keychains and in your pocket asap. With them, keeping your personal safety in check will become the easiest item on your to-do list.

Here are 5 tips to be safe on campus this semester:

1. Share your schedules with your roommates or close friends on campus.

You definitely don’t need to tell them every single time you’re going to the coffee shop during the day (especially with how often you frequent them during finals season!) but letting them know when you have a night class, when you’re going on a date, or heading off-campus alone is always a great idea. Bonus tip: share your phone location with them, too!

2. Walk in well-lit areas at night and travel with more than one-person if possible.

Thankfully, most campuses have street lamps that keep the walkways and sidewalks pretty well-lit at night. However, there’s always a side of campus where it has fewer lamps, is darker and less populated at night. Whenever possible, walk with a friend or travel with a group of people. Not only is that a great way to stay safe, but it also is an awesome opportunity to make new friends – and new safety buddies.

3. Don’t leave home without SABRE’s SMART Pepper Spray.

The SMART Pepper Spray from SABRE allows you to feel safe and confident no matter where you are – especially with the high-tech upgrade from your normal, every day pepper spray.

The SMART Pepper Spray can be paired with the SABRE Personal Safety App, which is designed to send alerts to assigned contacts by push notification. The alert will include the user’s location at the time the pepper spray deploys or the in-app alert button is pressed.

Additionally, a geotracking feature continues to monitor the user’s location following the initial help alert. The app includes a paid subscription option, which will also send an alert to local police with the user’s location through Noonlight, a 3rd party monitoring service, who can call first responders on the user’s behalf.

4. Walk confidently and be aware of your surroundings.

It’s sometimes easy to be distracted after leaving a rough work shift or a long study sesh in the library, but try your hardest to walk with a purpose, and take a mental note of who and what is going on around you. (That means not looking down at your phone the whole time you’re walking home!) This way, you can be sure to secure the scene, feel safe and protect yourself.

5. Stash SABRE Red Mighty Discreet in your bag.

As SABRE reminds us all with their products, “Personal safety is just that – it’s personal for everyone.” And, the SABRE Red Mighty Discreet is incredibly personal, as it is about 40% smaller than traditional pepper spray, and the size of a tube of lipstick. This makes it easy to conceal and carry in a small bag or clutch purse, and is the perfect night-out companion. It also is easy to bring along with you, because in addition to being small, there’s also a snap clip which allows for effortless attachment to keys or bag and quick detachment when you need it most.

Now that you have a good handle on your own personal safety, are you ready to make your personal safety plan?! If so, make sure to include SABRE safety products in your back-to-school shopping list. You’ll be ready to take on this busy semester with peace, confidence, and empowerment. Be safe, have fun, and go about your busy days confidently.
