Pride Month is a time to rejoice. And, in order to genuinely celebrate Pride, people must find ways to represent the radical origins of the Stonewall riots and the LGBTQ+ liberation movement throughout history. After all, there’s no better way to stand up for our community than to make concrete efforts to ensure that all members of the LGBTQ+ community are socially and systematically recognized, protected, and supported.

Another exciting way to celebrate in June is to get together with our friends and supporters from the community in places that feel secure, enjoyable, and liberating. It frequently resembles a nice old-fashioned dancing party. And sometimes that means cranking up “MONTERO” and attempting to pole dance your way to the beyond! In the times of the Pandemic, that is synonymous with a ZOOM PARTY.

Fortunately for you, we’ve put up a playlist that will keep the party going all month long – or at least until the minutes on your Zoom dance party expire. Here’s a Pride playlist that will get you grooving no matter how you celebrate, with everything from oldies to new school, baby gay bops to ally-friendly anthems.

Lil Nas X – “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”

Play this every hour on the hour, if not more frequently. Any pole dancing or lap dances on Satan will earn you bonus points!

SOPHIE – “Immaterial”

This year’s Pride playlists will almost certainly include (and should include) SOPHIE tributes. As the hyper pop pioneer sings, “And, no matter where I go, you’ll always be here in my heart,” this transcendent melody feels especially important.

Princess Nokia – “Tomboy”

If you or a companion are feeling like a tomboy and want an introduction walk-in anthem, here is the song for you!

Hayley Kiyoko – “Girls Like Girls”

When you need a means to “inform the neighbors you’re not sorry if you’re tearing down walls,” this is the place to go. But hopefully in a subversive, symbolic sense… Not in the literal sense!

Steve Lacy — “Like Me”

This groovy music is a celebration of togetherness and Steve Lacey’s stamina. (The song is nine minutes long, but it’s worth it for the transitions.)

Mitski — “Nobody”

Even the queen of yearning needs a bop in her collection, and you should have one in yours as well. You’re a yearner, you’re a yearner. (Bonus points if you turn any single friend’s sorrows into a desperate dance party with this one.)

Whitney Houston — “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”

Whitney is the queen of getting the party started! Blast into the night with this one.

Lady Gaga — “Born This Way”

Guys, I just had to include this one. You can eject someone from your event if they refuse to acknowledge that Lady Gaga’s song is a defining Pride tune. Just click on the ‘Remove’ button in front of their name. There’s nothing bad about being crazy for this song.

Betty Who — “All Things”

Play it when someone in the room says they’re an ally who enjoys watching Queer Eye.

David Bowie — “Rebel Rebel”

Put this on when you want to remind everyone that the best of the 1970s weren’t all disco.

Queen — “Radio Ga Ga”

When you need to remind everyone in the room that one of the great rock bands ever was led by a highly skilled vocalist who also happened to be a homosexual legend, pull this out.

Madonna — “Vogue”

This is one of the most popular Pride songs. You can listen to it whenever you like.

Carly Rae Jensen — “Julien”

When someone is reminded of their ex, but they don’t want to overwhelm the room with their emotions, play this.

Tegan and Sara — “Closer”

As the evening draws to a close, get this one on! It’s the most energizing approach to begin winding down the evening.

Troye Sivan — “Bloom”

Look up the song’s meaning on the internet. That should be sufficient to answer the query “when should we play this? “

Todrick Hall — “Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels”

If the party is in need of a strong beat, play this one. It’s also a song of instruction, so anyone can participate. However, some schooling may be required.
