The Best Short Hair Styles For Your Face Shape

Summer is upon us, and if you’re looking for a change of style, there’s no better time to chop off your long locks than beach season.  Not only is it much easier and less time-consuming to dry and style short hair, but shorter ‘dos are one of the hottest trends right now.  Going short is scary, however, and it can often be a hard haircut to pull off.  Don’t fear just yet, though: We’ve put together a list of the most popular short styles along with which is right for your face shape, so you’ll be styling like Rihanna in no time.

The Pixie:  This haircut is super short, and since it emphasizes the face so much, it’s best suited for a girl who exudes confidence and has strong facial features that she wants to show off.  The pixie cut is defined by very short, wispy layers that barely cover the nape of the neck, but for a little extra spice, ask for dramatic side swept bangs.  This haircut is great for summer because it takes such little effort – it’s meant to look messy.

Best For: Heart, Oval, or Square face shapes

The Bob: The bob is a hairstyle trend that has been around for decades, and it’s typically a safe bet for someone who is a little nervous about taking the plunge and going short.  It’s a sleek haircut that gives some extra volume to thin hair, and it usually works best on straight hair.  The bob is a layered, chin-length look that is slightly longer in the front than in the back.

Best For: Any face shape, just ask your hairdresser to cut it to a length that would flatter yours

The Flippy Bob: The flippy bob is a slight variation on the bob, and although it is just as chic, it’s less sleek and is supposed to look a little messy.  The flippy bob is a chin length cut with more texturing on the bottom, so the cut is not as weighed down.  The cut is layered, and while the top layer is straight and flips in slightly like the bob, the bottom layer flips out slightly.  This looks great with shorter side swept bangs, or, for a very dramatic look, ask for straight across bangs.

Best For: Heart or Oval face shapes

Asymmetrical: The asymmetrical haircut has taken the bob and put an entirely new twist on it.  Like the pixie and the flippy bob, it’s meant to look a little messy, so it’s a very easy haircut to maintain during the summer months.  The cut is very short in the back and exposes the nape of the neck, and is very short on one side of the face and has longer layers and bangs on the other.  It’s a daring haircut to try to pull off, and it’s a super trendy look for someone who is trying to update her style.

Best For: All face shapes. Like the bob, ask your hairdresser to cut the layers to a length that will flatter your face.
