Spectacular in Your Sandals

One of the things I started doing when I got to college was my own nails. At home I usually had bare nails or on occasion would go with my mom to the nail salon. Personally, I couldn’t justify paying the money for a mani-pedi once I got to college. Plus, my college town was severely lacking in nail salons.

Fortunately my wonderful friend who I met my first day of college got me addicted to having polish on my nails — and I slowly learned how to paint my nails (and not my nails and fingers…). In the cold weather of Upstate New York I almost never had to display my feet — but when summers came along, nail polish on my toes became a necessity.

Having become accustomed to painting my fingernails I assumed toenails would present no issues. I was wrong. Toes and feet are a whole other issue. This was something I didn’t really think about even though I was well aware a pedicure differed from a manicure.

Anyway just simply putting polish on my toes wouldn’t cut it. Toes required far more maintenance which is why I was thrilled when I discovered Spa Sister’s Spoiled Girl pedicure kit.

So while I watched an episode of Project Runway I carefully removed the nail polish off my toes and cracked out the pedicure kit. I used the cuticle sticks to clear nail polish in hard to reach places and remove any dirt, plus obviously push my cuticles back. I clipped and filed my nails. Then finished off making my feet look gorgeous with the nail brush and foot file.

I never use toe separators when painting my toes — mostly out of laziness. But this time I wedged the tool between my toes and, with more precision than I usually allot to my toes, applied bottom coat, two coats of a shimmery green polish, and a top coat. This could have (and usually would) lead to a bit of a mess on my toes, but the separator helped prevent that (obviously).

My toes and feet looked fresh from the salon! For a few weeks before I just kept touching up my toes before I would go out in flip-flops (so, everyday basically) and it looked awful up close. Spending the extra time definitely paid off!
