Have you ever wondered what those bowls are doing on Davis field or why there are swings by Scales? It’s so easy to walk from class to class and miss some of the great secrets of Wake Forest campus. All around campus there are pieces of artwork that we all too often walk right by. Those swings by Scales were actually a part of a student public art project. Inscribed with the words “passion,” “mood,” and “abandon,” these swings offer the perfect place to sit and take a moment to think. Plus, who doesn’t love a good swing. Also located right next to Scales, there are multiple large bowls. These were designed by Meg Webster in 1997 as a part of the Student Union Collection. They offer an interesting place to sit or just something to ponder. On your walk to Q Parking Lot, by the side of Wait Chapel, you have probably passed one other art piece without even noticing. The “COEXIST” Interfaith Arch was created by student Catherine Wilson in 2008 as a part of the Public Art class. Keep your eyes open for all the art scattered around campus, and take note that many of it was created by female students just like you!
