I have been on a rampage recently, and my closet is thanking me. A couple of weeks ago I made a purchase that has now and forever altered my fall (and mayb
e even winter) wardrobe, and I am obsessed. The purchase? A pair of skin-tone fishnets from Hue, $12.50. They are, perhaps, the perfect fall leg accessory. Though they won’t keep your legs especially warm, they add an extra layer of style to each outfit and it’s better than going with bare legs. I wear these fishnets under skirts and dresses for work all the time, but they’re also great for a casual look with a pair of cowboy boots. Because fishnets are made in all different colors and skin tones now, you should be able to find a pair that will work for you. But remember—a tighter fishnet weave = super chic = less chance of looking like a streetwalker.

My next obsession is my new pair of kicks. While I am by no means a sneakerhead, I do love a good pair of shoes, and these are IT. Keds “Champion” Leather High Tops in Tan, $75 at Bloomingdale’s.  And the leather is like buttahhhhh. At first I was hesitant—am I cool enough to wear such a shoe? Then I remembered. Of course I am! I wore them the second I had a chance, and even did the cuff-the-jeans-so-you-can-see-my-sweet-kicks thing. They’re so, so comfortable, a great fall/winter casual shoe and, because they’re this great neutral
tan, they go with everything. Give them a shot for yourself! You won’t regret it.

The last of my current obsessions is not just one item of clothing, but a combination. I was looking for a way to keep wearing my structured strapless sundresses for fall and winter without freezing to death, and I finally found a way. It was so simple, such a “duh” factor that I wish I’d thought of it sooner. I simply wear long sleeved shirts underneath them. Not in too wild of a color, just a neutral that keeps the focus on the dress. For example, I have a pale pink strapless cotton dress that I wore over a grey turtleneck—divine! And today I wore a white oxford shirt under a red strapless cotton dress—extraordinary! My boss even complimented me on my outfit. The look is great for making the most out of your wardrobe and if you want to get a little bit more out-of-the-box with your style choices. It’s best if the dresses are structured, though (some boning, darts, etc.), because if not it can look sloppy. Just always try before you wear.
Â
What I realize about each of these new obsessions is that they’re the result of fashion experimentation. Never think to yourself, “Oh, I can’t wear that because…” Just try it. And if you like how it looks, try it again! You are your own canvas.

And now, my next thought is…what if I wear all three of my new obsessions together?? I might try it for casual wear this weekend. I’m excited just thinking about it…
