Late night cramming at Strozier, countless coffees from the 24-hour Starbucks, and long nights-sounds like finals time. It can be really tough not losing your mind during this stressful time. Here are a few tips that can help you survive finals.
Â
- Manage your time wisely. In order to get good grades you have to study. And study some more. During finals it is very important to manage your time effectively. Making a study schedule works for me. I squeeze in study breaks and much needed down time. Don’t leave studying for the night before! Most people cannot make A’s by studying the night before, so make sure you make the most out of the days before your exam.Â
- Give your brain a break! Don’t become overwhelmed by your text books. Make time to take a break and think about other things besides your exam. Visit your favorite websites, Facebook stalk your friends, and read a cool article on hercampus.com! An hour or two for down time will ensure that you don’t over work your mind.
- Be good to your body. All the stress from finals can make your immune system weaker. Make sure you eat enough, load up on vitamin C, and always have breakfast. You have to feed your body more than coffee. I know the 24-hour Starbucks is very tempting but if you are getting a latte make sure you at least buy a sandwich! Also, get enough sleep. You will not be able to retain as much if you’re tired. Get a good night’s sleep!
- Find your study place. For some people the library is too quiet, for others it is the perfect place. Find your study place. Make it a place with minimal distractions so you can focus on the material you are covering. There are many places to choose from at FSU. Make yourself comfortable in your chosen spot because you are going to be there for a while.Â
- Reward yourself! Whether you make straight A’s or not, you deserve a reward for all your effort. Treat yourself to a nice dinner, or a small shopping spree. Get yourself something that makes you truly happy-you deserve it!
