A Second Dance: Buying and Selling Dresses with Belle’s Closet

There is a flock of them that hang there and stare at you every time you open your closet—glittery reds, shiny blues, pretty pinks—but for whatever reason you cannot part yourself from these dresses that mean so much to you. They’ve accumulated through milestones in your life: proms, sorority formals, graduation, society debuts, what have you, and they’ve made you so happy. But maybe now it’s your chance to let them make someone else happy.

This is where Belle’s Closet comes in. Based in New Hampshire, Belle’s Closet was created by Cindy Simms, Jane Drew, and three Northeastern University students in order to allow women of all ages to have “an affordable dress of their dreams or share their gently used dress and recoup some of their investment.” Dresses are bought and sold on the site, in sizes 0 to 18, and are usually no more than $80 – even for designer labels. Belle’s Closet began in 2009 so girls from all backgrounds could have a fabulous dress to wear for a special occasion. These days, the site boats almost 300 dresses to choose from, all gently used and many with the tags still on. According to the site, “Belle’s Closet is designed for young women to connect with each other, to find women who have a similar style, size, taste and would like to buy and sell dresses, to make it financially feasible to find a dream dress in today’s economy”.

As college girls, we know the value of an extra buck or two to say the least. Why spend a ton of money on a dress you’re going to wear once? And how cool is it to have your own dress dreams come true, or get the chance to make someone else’s possible?

Even better? It’s so easy to buy and sell dresses on the Belle’s website! If you’re looking to buy, you can scroll through the virtual closets of other girls to see whose closet best matches your style. You can also browse the dresses on Belle’s Closet by color (color family or specific color), size, length, style, and price range. If you’re looking to sell, simply go to BellesCloset.com and click ‘My Closet’. After entering some basic information, you get to create your closet, upload pictures and add descriptions of each dress. That’s it! Belle’s takes care of the rest and payments are made through PayPal so everything is safe and secure. Don’t want to buy and sell online? If you’re in the New England area you can also visit the new Belle’s Closet showroom in southern New Hampshire! Belle’s always has a great seasonal selection of dresses on display.

If you weren’t already convinced to buy or sell a dress with Belle’s Closet, they’re currently having a “Fabulous and Free Party” winter contest that gives you the chance to win free dresses and cash gift cards! Unlike other contests that only allow you to enter once, each dress you buy gives you a chance to win. Want to increase your chances? You’ll get additional entries for signing up, setting up your own closet and posting a dress – three chances if your dress sells! Check out the site for more information at www.bellescloset.com

Belle’s Closet is a great way to buy and sell dresses that are important for every memory—memories of being young and fabulous, memories that are forever tied closely to a beautiful dress. Visit Belle’s Closet and create some of these new memories, for yourself and for someone else.
