Her Campus on Fox25 News – How to Get an Internship

Last week, I went on Fox25 News again on behalf of HC- this time talking about how to get a summer internship!  These were some of the tips I gave:

  • Don’t wait until your junior year to start thinking about getting an internship.  There are internships available to rising sophomores and juniors, and you can at least start meeting with Career Services early on just to start to get a feel for what the opportunities are.
  • Plan ahead- put together a resume and form cover letter that you can then tweak to fit almost any internship application, so that it’s easy to apply to a bunch of places quickly.  Also take note of if internship apps require essays, recommendations, or transcripts, since those can take some time to put together!
  • Start thinking about budgeting for the summer at the same time as you’re thinking about applying for internships.  Many internships are in expensive cities like NYC or LA, and they’re unpaid!
  • Be persistent and follow up.  If it’s been 2 weeks since you sent in your application and you haven’t heard back, send a follow-up email to check in and express your interest in the position again.

You can hear the rest of my tips and watch the full video below!
