This promising future elementary school teacher never thought her photography skills would take her places. Little did she realize this small hobby would become a personal business practically overnight. Although becoming a teacher is her main aspiration, this photography has already opened so many doors. From weddings to clubs, local artists to models, Erica has created an artistic name for herself. On the verge signing to be their personal contracted photographer with some of Tucson’s largest clubs (Pearl, Zen Rock, and Sapphire) this fiery red-head is taking this town by storm.
Â
HC:What is Emay Flicks? How did this name come about?
Erica:A good friend and local artist, Winston Marshall, started calling me Emay and has stuck every since.
Â
HC:How long have you been doing photography?
Erica:It started in high school when I was assigned a senior project for my film class. I had such a good time being creative with my theme that the hobby just kind of stuck.
Â
HC:What kind of camera do you use?
Erica:Canyon EOS10D with 2 lenses. Heavy, but does the job!
HC:Where does your inspiration come from?
Erica:Honestly, my main inspiration comes from America’s Next Top Model, as ridiculous as that sounds, I have always loved watching the seasons through and through seeing them create these amazing photos. My main focus with photography lies in the world of fashion.
Â
HC:Is being a photographer a potential career choice?
Erica: It’s always been a passion of mine, or at least for a while now. At first I didn’t really see this going very far, maybe only having a shoot a month. Now that it’s going so well I might as well pursue it along with teaching.
Â
HC:How many photo shoots do you generally have in a week?
Erica:About 2-3 per week and picking up. It’s a lot of work while being a student teacher and full time student.
Â
HC:What kinds of events do you photograph?
Erica:I’m really focused on the music business at the moment, shooting for clubs and the local rap scene. I also have dipped into the fashion industry and done family shoots. I am looking to do senior photos with the end of the year coming up!
Â
HC:Do you have any exciting shoots coming up?
Erica:Next week ill be shooting for Mickey 360 he’s a local artist that just signed with Warner Record Label. I’ll also be doing a shoot for Genius Airlines, and G-MO; also local rap artists.
Â
Erica’s rates are generally $75 – $90 for a basic 2 hour shoot/editing; feel free to contact her, she’d love to help make your special events more memorable.
