Well midterms have arrived and reading period is right around the corner. Thank heavens! However, you still have a few days to go. And HC Lawrence wants to be here for you – to provide a short escape into…

OK, we’ll admit it. We just wanted to show you some HOT guys and the reasons we can’t stop lookin’ at them. Here is the black tie edition of Men We Love to Love for the week of February 7, 2011.

Jon Hamm – The All-American Man

Whether he’s the dapper Don Draper in the award-winning AMC series Mad Men, or he’s going gruff in street clothes, Jon Hamm looks good. And although at 39, he may be comparatively senior to some of our other selections, Hamm reminds us that age may be something to look forward to, even though it was a problem in his own past. He told Details magazine that when he came to Hollywood in the early 90s, his “look” was not in: “If you didn’t look 18 years old, you weren’t working. And I didn’t look 18 years old when I was 18. I always looked 10 years older than I was.” We’re definitely happy his moment finally came. And with his down to earth candor off camera, this man’s man is definitely our choice for a man we love to love.
Along with being dashingly good looking, this Jon can “ham” it up too.  This reference and other hilarious puns can be seen in this edition of “Between Two Ferns,” a web series hosted by Zach Gailfanikas.

Ed Westwick – European Charmer

This English import has us swooning over him in his portrayal as the young mega-millionaire, Chuck Bass, on the CW’s hit show, Gossip Girl. Besides the 23 year-old’s ability to evoke a deep and mysterious American accent, Westwick brings us in touch with our secret love for the ambiguous hero/villan role. But contrary to his sometimes egotistical alter ego, he seems to be super sweet person and a fun guy to be around out of character! Lawrentians, if you stop in New York, be sure to look out for this stud and say hi! But be warned: In a recent interview with a British magazine, Westwick said that he doesn’t feel connected with his Gossip Girl role. If his departure is truly imminent, at least were promised the two more years of mother-chucking mandated by his contract. And thank God that we can get GG seasons on DVD to re-watch Chuck, kicking some Bass in our dorm movie nights…

Leonardo DiCaprio – The “Jack” of All Trades

At a mere 36, Leonardo DiCaprio is already a legend (and was named after another legend, Leonardo Da Vinci). With an eternally adorable baby face, this lover of Laker’s games and active humanitarian is more than an A-list movie star. Of course he has that going for him too. Can you say Blood Diamond, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, Inception, Titanic?  Leo has a deep commitment to people and his work, and that shows through in involvement to his eponymous foundation that works for wildlife protection, and portrayals of complex characters and historical figures. Speaking of historical figures… DiCaprio is currently working on J. Edgar, a film about the first director of the FBI and later controversial figurehead, directed by Clint Eastwood. Ed Westwick is also in the movie!
Leo says: Catch Me if You Can! Maybe in the movie, but in real life, no one’s keeping up with him.

Zac Efron – Blue Eyed Beauty

Just shy of a quarter century old, this 23 year old has already been establishing himself for years to come. Fresh off of his appearance at the Golden Globes – and new haircut – Zac Efron has blossomed from a child star to respected Hollywood hottie! After his dedication and enthusiasm in the High School Musical series, movies like Hairspray and Charlie St. Cloud have shown that – like Leo – Efron wants to move out of his type cast and become a dynamic actor. We’ll sure have a chance to make our judgements after we see The Lucky One, a film about a Marine who returns to North Carolina after serving three tours in Iraq to search for an unknown woman he believes was his good luck charm during the war (IMDB). Although rumors are that him and long time girlfriend, Vanessa Hutchens, have called it quits, supposedly he wasn’t the one who wanted the spit – even after three years of probably being able to get any girl. We admire this blue-eyed beauty’s commitment and his overall effort to be an upstanding guy! And did we mention is flawless bod? We love ya, Zac!

Annie Kaiser is a senior economics and government major at Lawrence University. Happily born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Annie also has been called a "nomad" by her friends. In the past two years she has lived on both coasts, spending a year at school in Claremont, California and living in Georgetown for a summer internship with a political web-blog in Alexandria, Virginia. She played Varsity basketball and soccer throughout college, and has decided boxing will be her go-to workout after her collegiate athletic retirement. Annie's favorite activities include dining in fine restaurants, debating about politics, memorizing the presidents in order, painting, keeping up with celeb gossip, seatfiling at award shows, making lists of interesting words, and reading classic novels. She can not get enough of Jack Johnson music, new challenges, and Chuck Bass. Her motto: put your mind to it, and do it.
