Eco Fashion: An Interview With Stacy Longo

I interviewed talented designer Stacy Longo last fall after she won Styleta‘s Student Designer Challenge. Currently, her designs are being sold on Styleta’s site, with the majority of the proceeds going towards women’s charities. Stacy is passionate about eco-friendly fashion, hence the name of the collection: Stacy Longo Sustainable Apparel. Here’s what she has to say:

Her Campus: What are you selling on Styleta?
Stacy Longo:
Graphic t-shirts, tank tops, muscle tee’s, and a promotional tote. All items are unisex!

HC: What was the inspiration behind your designs?
SL:
All designs were inspired by fine art and literature. I thought it was important to show that words are just as beautiful as a drawing. It’s the message behind them that makes them beautiful.

HC: Do you have any advice for aspiring designers?
SL:
I always say do what you love, love what you do. Be true to your style. If designing is what makes you happy, then you have to go for it. Remember that no one starts at the top and you can’t get to the top without working hard. A good way to stay motivated and positive is to keep your long-term goal in the back of your mind. Don’t let failure be an option.

HC: Why is eco-friendly fashion so important?
SL:
It’s so easy for people to purchase sustainable clothing and it makes such a difference. It keeps the planet clear of harmful substances, why would you wear anything else? For a while people thought it was just a trend, I hope people start to realize that it is here to stay!
