Ahhh, Valentine’s Day. When we don the rose-colored glasses and quite literally everything turns to red and pink. The day when couples meet in a celebration of their love or, if you’re like me, the meeting goes on between your mouth and copious amounts of chocolate. As we get older it seems that our age group divides itself into two teams concerning this holiday: the Valentiners and the Anti-Valentiners. The former team looks at Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to bask in the light of romance; while the other feels it is being blinded by the overt displays of affection. More often than not, I’ve found myself a member of the latter group. But, as flaming resentment cools itself to a lukewarm apathy I start to recognize the really wonderful things about the holiday. Even if you’re not taking part in romantic activities, it’s a great time reflect on the other loves in your life: your family, your friends, your pets, etc. Anyways, how can you hate a holiday that actually encourages people to give you free chocolate? Do I need to say more?Â
