Florals, and Animals, and Plaids; Oh My! At Betsey Johnson’s Fall 2011 Fashion Show Monday evening, Betsey seized the day – Valentine’s Day that is, and themed her show around Cupid’s holiday.
Blaring 80s electro-pop, the show was separated into two “acts” – the “Black Tag” Collection followed by the “Pink Patch” Collection. In her opening act, models sashayed down the runway wearing jet black Cleopatra wigs, bright blue eye shadow, and blood red lipstick. Starting out with basic black and white in animal and floral prints, Betsey put her usual fun twist on the ensembles by gradually adding bright pops of color – first red, then yellow, then a rainbow burst on the black and white background.
The second portion of the show introduced a new Betsey line – “Pink Patch”. Branded as “affordable, accessible, and true-blue Betsey,” all pieces from this collection cost under $100. And to truly embrace this, Betsey utilized all “real-girls” (and guys!)
to model the outfits, picking employees from her stores and showroom in all shapes and sizes each and every one wearing a blonde-banged-Betsey wig!
The finale started with Betsey arriving in a black mink coat and matching Cleopatra wig with a blond stripe down the back. She slowly shredded clothes and the wig to reveal an eccentric neon ensemble as she called out her models for the final time each one wearing a heart shaped hat and holding giant pink, red, and white roses!
