Awards season is in full swing in Hollywood, and the dresses of the year are to die for! The colors are bold: emeralds, pinks, blues and the ever-stylish nude. The styles are many: one shoulder, strapless, long-sleeved, tight dresses, loose dresses and dresses with trains.
Â
The red carpet is alive with glitter as stars flaunt their chosen designers with pride!Â
Personally, I’m a big fan of the dramatic looks of the season. Eva Longoria’s curve hugging, plunging Zac Posen dress at the Golden Globes was amasterpiece, and the daring January Jones’ dress for the Globes was a glamorous confection of red with a wealth of sex appeal.
Â
No color was unaccounted for and no style was missing from the red carpet so far this year. The only thing people are wondering is where to find these gorgeous gowns at an affordable price. The new website boutiques.com is a great place to find the stylish gowns, but they are a bit pricey. (I still recommend checking it out though, it’s a wonderful collection of designer, celebrity and current fashion trends all under one site.)
Â
Less pricey options include, www.bluefly.com, www.bakers.com (for those sky-high heels celebrities rock down the red carpet), www.ardenb.com, www.simplydresses.com and www.shopdress.com.
Now that you know where to shop, let’s focus on what to buy. Here is a list of the top dresses on the red carpet this year from yours truly!
Â
Things to remember when you are shopping for the perfect dress:
1. TRY IT ON! Even if you order it online, you should try it on and send it back if it doesn’t work out. Everyone has a different body type; make sure the dress you pick fits yours.
2. Keep an open mind. Don’t look for one dress in particular; branch out and try new things. Wear a color you wouldn’t normally wear, or try a style you’ve never tried before. As the saying goes, “Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!”
3. Comfort is essential. Not every gorgeous dress has to be uncomfortable. In fact, a lot of them are quite the opposite. If you’re planning on wearing a dress for more than a couple hours, you have GOT to be comfy in it. Trust me, you’ll feel more confident in a dress that is comfortable.
4. Not everyone has a perfect body, that’s why Spanks are so handy! It’s not embarrassing to wear them, the fact is that you’ll look a lot better and not have to worry about “sucking it in.” I have a pair and I love them!
5. Don’t go overboard on the glitter, number of colors or even the number of straps a dress has. “Keep it simple, stupid” is another good saying that keeps dresses looking classy.
6. Buy a dress you can wear more than once. These are nice dresses. You don’t want to wear it one time and then shove it in the back of your closet. That’s where simplicity comes in. With simple dresses you can accessorize a bunch of different ways and have a new style every time you go out!Â
Also, if you get a long dress, you can always get it shortened after you’ve worn it a couple times. I’ve done that with all my old prom dresses, and now they are perfect for cocktails and dress-up nights with the girls!
