Five Questions from the Proust Questionnaire:

Who are your favorite painters?
My favourite visual artists change from moment to moment…right now I’m loving Andy Goldsworthy, Frank Ghery, and Emek (a graphic designer that works with Erykah Badu, among others). As for “painters” from the art cannon, right now Matisse and Dalí come to mind as favourites…but I think Dalí was sexist so forget that creep with his droopy bullshit.

Who are your heroes in real life?
My mom is my superhero, because she made herself in a predominantly male financial occupation and still had time to be an awesome supportive mother. André 3000 and Lil’ Wayne are some of my other heros. Not for making amazing rap songs, because I know how easy that is, but for living exactly as they felt was right and most fruitful and beautiful.

Who are your favorite heroines of history?
My heroines of history are probably forgotten. I’m sure so many things I love about life were created, exposed or protected by women the men at the time didn’t write about. The ones I know about include Madonna, Erykah Badu, Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres, Nicki Minaj and others who have somehow found enough media power to spread word about some of society’s gender/race/sexuality role issues. And Oprah I guess, but she seems like a bitch…and a dick. Otherwise, heroins are dope.

What are your favorite names?
I’m not sure how to answer what my favourite “names” are. For me, I like Jack. It’s really pretty useful as a rapper actually. I really like any name that is a clever parody of another name, song titles, movie titles, mixtape titles, you name it! I also like excessively obnoxious names of anything, like “The Artist Formally Known As Prince” or “A Pimp Named Slickback” etc. Oh, and the title to Duchamps “L.H.O.O.Q.” (pretend I said it outloud and knew what it meant in French).

What is it you most dislike?
I dislike close-mindedness, which means I’m pretty close-minded, but I’m also a little self-loathing so that’s fine. Arrogance is annoying too (see what I mean?), but sometimes it’s hard to avoid if you’re really witty and charming. Basically, I think everyone should always say what they think is true, and be open-minded to what is true to others. But the single thing I dislike, or rather, irrationally hate more than any and everything else is rape. I’m glad we ended on a good note.

Haruka Aoki and Luisa Robledo instantly bonded over the love for witty writing and haute couture. Haruka, a self-professed fashionista, has interned at Oak Magazine and various public relations companies where she has reached leadership positions. Luisa, a passionate journalist and editor of the Arts and Culture section of Brown University's newspaper, has interned and Vogue and has co-designed a shoe collection for the Colombian brand Kuyban. Together, they aim to create a website that deals with the real issues that college women face, a space that can serve as a forum of communication. With the help of an internationally-minded team section editors and writers who have different backgrounds, experiences, and mentalities, these two Brown girls will establish a solid presence on-campus.
