Major: Fiction writing

A few interesting things you’d like to share about yourself: My favorite show is “Supernatural,” and my favorite books include “Mystic River” by Dennis Lehane and “Generation Kill” by Evan Wright. I’ve had two stories on my mind lately involving sibling relationships. This may be a result of having three older sisters and three younger foster sisters myself, but I’ve been interested in taking the individual bonds I have with each of my sisters—which, like all relationships, have positive and dysfunctional sides—and exploring every moment I possibly can through the eyes of brothers.

Zodiac sign: Gemini

Favorite color: Red

Favorite food: I’m a sucker for sweets, especially those containing chocolate.

Biggest pet peeve: When the Chicago Transit Authority gets crowded and some riders don’t move their bags so others can sit down.

Favorite song at the moment: “Tennessee Waltz” by Sam Cooke

Favorite place to shop: Target because it’s cheap, and I love its v-neck T-shirts.

What you like/don’t like about Columbia: I like that Columbia encourages creativity and innovative thinking throughout all departments, but I wish the critiquing of our work in the Fiction Writing Department began in Fiction I instead of in the third level class, Prose Forms.

Jackson is a senior magazine journalism major at Columbia College Chicago, class of 2011. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Jackson transferred to Columbia during his sophomore year and considers Chicago to be second home. In addition to being a Campus Correspondent for Her Campus Columbia, Jackson also works as the copy chief for The Columbia Chronicle, Columbia's student-run newspaper, and at Echo, Columbia's student-run magazine, as the fact checking/copy chief and online editor. Jackson especially loves writing about the LGBTQ community and hopes to make it one of his specialities sometime in the future. While being a big believer in karma, Jackson always tries to surround himself with positive energy and positive people. A few of Jackson's favorite things: RuPaul's Drag Race, Family Guy, lemon-flavored Arizona iced tea and Chipotle.
