What I’m Lovin Right Now…

Entrance to b-Blue, on Calle Armenia

Having been in Buenos Aires for quite some time now – and being the self-proclaimed foodie that I am – I like to think I’ve tried out some of the best cuisine the city has to offer. Fine dining, hole-in-the-wall joints, vegetarian buffets…I’ve tried them all. Though I could probably write a novel listing all of my favorite restaurants here, one eatery stands alone, its quality and enormous charm far surpassing the rest: b-Blue Deli & Natural Bar.

b-Blue is located in the quaint neighborhood of Palermo Soho (conveniently just two blocks from me!), which is also the trendiest and most up-and-coming area of Buenos Aires. Cool, bohemian-chic clothing stores and fun, unique specialty shops (think stores that exclusively sell neon, hand-painted glasses frames) line the streets, making b-Blue the perfect spot to take a load off after a tiring day of shopping.

My friends and I went to b-Blue on three separate occasions this past weekend, and the reason is simple: the fare is sure to please everybody. Light breakfast foods, like scrambled eggs and yogurt with granola, are served all day, and their fresh fruit plate is always in season and appealing. They have one of the widest salad menus I have see in Buenos Aires, and you can be sure the lettuce is crisp and the home-made dressing (always served on the side!) mixed juuust right. Of course, b-Blue’s menu includes some Argentine staples as well. Examples include ham and cheese on a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth croissant and – my current favorite – smoked salmon with arugula and cream cheese (Argentines love their smoked salmon; or lox, to us Jews). Rounding out the list of entrees are some hot dishes, including grilled veggies with chicken or tofu.

b-Blue is most famous, however, for its beyond-fresh juice and smoothie bar. You can get any combination of fruits under the sun blended into a healthy and delicious smoothie – made with water or yogurt, your choice – or you can opt for a less filling choice and get a scrumptious fruit juice, instead. If you want my expert opinion, I’d say go for the La Bomba Tropical, a thick juice made with strawberry, banana, peach and a touch of granola. I might also pair that with a dulce de leche muffin…you know, to get all my food groups in.
