Spring break is creeping towards us and there is nothing we can do to stop it, but we can do something to make sure we’re ready. Ok, so spring break is about having fun with friends, relaxing, and no schoolwork, but why not look fabulous while doing so? Here are 5 habits to kick to look and feel your best:
- Sleep deprivation– While you may think you can catch up on your sleep during break, you don’t want to be rundown. We’re in the middle of midterms meaning we have some long nights ahead, but don’t get caught off guard. If you plan ahead, use the hours during the day wisely, and get good sleep most nights of the week you wont be fighting off coughs and colds all break.
- Late night food binges– That pizza may sound really good at 1:30am after a long night out or up studying, but there’s a good chance you’ll regret waking up to the 3 boxes of stacked pizza next to your bed. Drink a lot of water, grab a granola bar from the vending machine if you’re hungry, and get to sleep!
- Obsessing about your body– Stop! You’re endless ranting about how fat you are(n’t) isn’t helping anything. It’s not going to make you look or feel any better. Confidence is way more attractive than any physical appearances. So go to the gym, eat well, and be happy with yourself, you’re beautiful!
- Boycotting the gym– Don’t let the recent snow keep you away. Find time between studying and class to get to the gym, if anything else it will release your stress.
- Caffeine overload– Coffee may seem like a necessity trying to get through midterms and papers these next couple of weeks before spring break, but it can also be detrimental. Too many cups of coffee can hinder your sleep, cause you to break-out, or make you dependent on it. Supplement a coffee for tea at least once a day; wash your face with ice water in the morning to wake you up; and drink water all day to stay hydrated and alert!
Instead, some things you can do to make yourself look and feel your best:
- Make a schedule– It may seem anal, but it’s nice to make a list of things you need to do and when you can do them. This will relieve stress by helping you manage your time effectively.
- Carry around a bottle of water– Being dehydrated makes you lethargic, cranky, and sick feeling. Always have water with you to keep you feeling fresh, not to mention it’s great for your skin!
- Dress for success– Sweats may seem like the optimal wardrobe choice in the cold, but dressing nicely for class gives you confidence and put you in the right mood.
- Go to breakfast– Maybe you usually never go to breakfast because you like to sleep as late as possible. But going to breakfast helps you wake up, get some brain food, and stop your stomach from growling in class. Eating breakfast can also combat overeating at lunch for being too hungry!
- Read Her Campus– Ok, so you may really need to be studying, but it doesn’t hurt to take a quick break and find some great tips on your love life, health, and schoolwork. That way you wont spend your time worrying about these things when you could be doing something else! Remember though, moderation.
We’re all looking forward to spring break so stay healthy to really enjoy it! Have any other good tips on how to stay healthy during this time of frenzy? Leave your comments below!
