Hey Collegiettes™ and salutations from London!
So today started my first official day on the Lose the Freshman 15 weight lose program and I’ve already encountered my first dilemma: going on dates. Wednesdays I have my Popular European Cinema: Italy 1960s class from 9am-1pm, which includes a lecture and film screening followed by a class discussion. I usually sit next to this cute British boy, Jake. We casually strike up some small talk about the weather or the movie we just watched, but today he asked me out to lunch! Of course I didn’t want to say, “sorry I can’t, I’m on a diet,” but how do you make smart and healthy choices without drawing too much attention to yourself? It’s such a difficult predicament to be in. Do I order a salad without croutons and ask for dressing on the side leaving him to think I’m a high maintenance picky eater? Or should I just act as though my weight is not an issue for me and order anything off the menu (well in moderation, I do want him to be attracted to me afterall)?
After walking around looking for a place to eat we decided to go to Pret-a-Manger to grab a sandwich and eat on the steps outside the British National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. I got a chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato on multigrain bread. Although it sounds healthy, I know the bread must have been high in calories and the mayonnaise definitely outweighed any of the nutritional value. I also know I should have just ate half a sandwich, but I didn’t. I ate the whole thing, and now I sit writing to you with a guilty conscious. After a perfectly nice afternoon talking to a nice boy my mind is fixated on food. I am about to go for a run outside to burn off some of the extra calories I consumed, but that doesn’t change the fact that dating whilst on a diet is a challenge. Do you guys have any advice on how to stick to your caloric intake while out on a date.
Tonight I’m making a healthy and colorful salad so I’ll be sure to let you know the recipe and take a picture of it! I also will be using SELF’s Jump Start Diet program to help me count my calories. Its free and there are amazing tips, recipes, and work out routines given by Jillian Michaels (one of the trainers of the Biggest Loser).
Looking forward to hearing from you guys. You can also find me on twitter at @pamela_shari
Cheers!
