My fresh start to losing the freshman 15

Hey Collegiettes™!

With midterms in full swing here at the Forest (aka Wake Forest University), let’s just say that healthy eating has not been my top priority lately. Though I pride myself in choosing and enjoying nutritious options, I’ve been labeled a “salad girl” by many of my friends, stress tends to bring out my biggest weakness when it comes to food: sweets. Needless to say, I am ready to put my large consumption of chocolate this past weekend behind me and start fresh on my journey to lose the freshman 15!

Thanks to the SELF Jumpstart Diet, today has put me well on my way to losing the freshman 15 in just 4 weeks! Seeing as I have a mere 4 days till I set sail for the Caribbean for spring break, looking confident in my cute new bikinis gives me even more incentive to stick to my new healthy lifestyle.

I must say, though this is only my first day, I am pretty proud of myself. Even with the stress of multiple papers looming over me—the fate of an English major—I managed to steer clear of junk food all day!

For breakfast I had two whole grain frozen waffles with almond butter and honey from the SELF Jumpstart Diet. I was so impressed! Not only were they delicious but they kept my stomach from growling embarrassingly during classes today. Who knew waffles could be healthy?!

For lunch I just had a Luna Bar and some plain Greek yogurt with honey, because on Wednesday I have classes at 11 and 12 and an internship from 1-3. I often ponder what in the world I can eat on these days that is portable and nutritious, so if you have any tips for eating a healthy but on-the-go lunch please let me know!

It was so beautiful out today, so a friend and I went for a run. Running is my all-time favorite work out and, weather permitting, I would do it every day. Though I must admit that there are days where physical activity does not sound as appealing as my nice comfy bed. Running off of around 6 hours of sleep for the last few days (bad, I know), today was one of those days. But thanks to a little budge from my friend, I ended up running 3.5 miles today! This is a great example of why it is so beneficial to have friends to work out with and hold you accountable. Luckily I have some great friends who are going to help me reach my goals these upcoming weeks.

For dinner I was once again on-the-go, heading back to my new home for the week…the library. Living up to my label as “salad girl,” I had a Chargrilled Chicken Salad from Chik-Fil-A and a yummy mixed berry fruit salad bowl from Whole Foods.

Let’s hope that I can keep my strong will throughout my stay at the library tonight. If you have any suggestions for how to curb those pesky late night chocolate cravings, let me know!

I feel more confident already, knowing that I have just started a journey towards a healthier and slightly smaller new me. If you want to follow along and do the same, sign up for the SELF Jump Start Diet at SELF.com.
