Here at Wake Forest, we have a pretty unique dining experience. Since it is a small school, the majority of students live on campus past the required two years and our one cafeteria acts as the main watering hole for the campus. Hence, I am a junior still living in a dorm room. Don’t get me wrong, what could be better than living in a suite with 6 of my friends and a few steps away from others? Not much, except for the fact that dorm living greatly limits my food choices. Though the Wake cafeteria is great for socializing, The Pit, as it so lovingly called by students—for  its location at the bottom level of a building, not the food quality of course—the all you can eat buffet-style dining does not bode well for anyone trying to stick to a healthy diet.
Keeping my portions to a normal size, I often seem to collect way too many plates during one meal, and steering clear of the dessert section has been a struggle for me since my freshman year here.I tend to try and keep to the salad and fruit bar, but even for a “salad girl” like me that can get pretty old. So my advice for all you collegiettes™ out there who still rely on cafeteria food, be creative!
Creativity is definitely going to be necessary for me to both save money by eating on campus and continue to follow the SELF Jump Start Diet for these upcoming weeks and I would love any tips you have for how to make dining hall food healthy and delicious!
