Lose the Freshman 15: Thinking Like a Guy

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Hello collegiettes™,

With yesterday’s setback discovery of my 2 lb. weight gain still fresh in my mind, I’m determined to keep my forward momentum going.

First thing on my agenda: thinking like a guy.

Every morning SELF magazine sends me a quick e-mail with a daily tip for the Jump Start Die. These messages are not only great little reminders for me to stay on track and keep moving, but a great source of fitness information, too! guyrunning

But why think like a guy? Well collegiettes™, have you ever noticed guys tend to lose weight and get in shape faster than girls? I used to watch Biggest Loser and recall the weigh-in episodes where I was always amazed at how the male contestants could seemingly drop weight in a heartbreak, while as the female contestants took a bit longer. Not. Fair. At. All.

According to SELF, “the male mind-set can help you hurdle small setbacks. Even in the face of setbacks, men believe they’re doing great and rarely doubt their ability to succeed.”

I know I’ve definitely had my doubts in the past, especially with yesterday’s weigh-in, but it’s time for a change of mind. What does thinking like a guy mean?

SELF says getting in the mind-set of a guy includes the following:

  1. Keeping focus and having a one-track mind
  2. Building confidence and not worrying about the opinions of others
  3. Don’t be afraid to sweat
  4. Feeding your ego
  5. No eating out of boredom or stress
  6. Pumping iron
  7. Avoiding over-thinking, but not over-doing
  8. Opting for “real food” and avoiding low-cal or diet food labeled items
  9. Tracking progresses and setbacks
  10. Never doubting your abilities
