It’s Friday night in the middle of March. You’re with your friends in your dorm room, thinking about what to do. You just missed the last loop bus to go to the mall and you would rather not wait in line in the blistering cold to go to a party. Besides, you wouldn’t want to ruin your new boots in frat basement anyway. Oh, the joys of being a girl. Consequently, you’re at a loss for what to do, and you definitely are not doing homework.
Most devastatingly of all, you don’t have a car on campus. You are a freshman.
There might be a Student Band Night at the Rat or a movie playing in the STUD. But it’s just too cold to go outside, to make an effort to cross the parking lot to get to the STUD. Every freshman has had this feeling at least once since September: the lack of desire to leave his or her dorm even though it’s a Friday night. So what is there to do?
Play a game!
My friend has Catch Phrase and Mad Gab. Though it sounds corny, these two games guarantee laughter and fun. Catch Phrase is like computerized Pictionary, only without the pictures. You have to guess what a word is through description alone. Mad Gab involves people reading words that make sounds that make words. A player must try to guess the phrase based on the sounds they hear. Monopoly is another great never-ending game as is Twister.
Photobooth
It may sound stupid, I know, but if you have a Mac, photobooth! Even PCs have a form of photobooth. People really do like taking pictures, especially stupid ones. Even boys! I have plenty of photos with just my guy friends and me goofing off. All the cool styles and colors make Photobooth even better. It’s all in the name of fun, after all, it’s not an actual photoshoot!
Television & Movies
Watch several episodes of a show in a row. One Saturday my friends and I watched almost an entire season of SpongeBob. This can easily be done on a Friday, just grab some feel-good food from TDubbs (you know you want that Ben and Jerry’s after your chicken fingers) and relax!
As far as movies, I don’t think I’ve ever watched so many movies within the span of a few months. My friends and I watch movies roughly every other night. Netflix has become invaluable on my floor.
Pig Out
Have a TDubbs feast (especially if you live in the Towers). Or maybe take-out, like Lovin’ Cookies.
