We all know the saying, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” But there are some new spring accessories that every girl should become acquainted with! Straight from the runways, these trending pieces are perfect for college girls who want to spice up their look.
First, the obi belt has been on the radar since the winter. Now, the sash-like belt is trending on the runways of designers such as Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors. But for a cheaper option, Urban Outfitters has versions of these belts at a reasonable price. These belts may be leather, for example, and wrap around the waste to accentuate your frame. Put between a skirt and top, this unique accessory will certainly boost your look and can make your outfit range anywhere from vintage to modern. Freshmen Kate Bilash and Katie Shockey agree that the belt is so different and versatile, and that it can turn an ordinary outfit into something that is fashion forward.
The platform-wedge heel or sandal is also a prominent spring accessory. My favorite platform, that I recently saw, has a wooden wedge with a rope or leather detailing. From my experience, wedges are also significantly more comfortable than heels so they are perfect for both our daytime and nighttime looks. Personally, I think this style shoe pairs perfectly with white or denim jeans, or a floral or basic pencil skirt. Thus, you can create a natural and romantic look, or a relaxed and edgy outfit.
Next, forget about those awkward, overstuffed bags that knock into people as you make your way through a party or the aisle of a class lecture. The messenger and crossover bags easily take care of that. They are smaller and more condensed, and you can fit your essentials in them for the time being. The messenger bag is perfect for class with room for your notebooks and laptop. There are also compartments, just like in any other backpack, for other smaller items like wallets, phones, or makeup. My personal favorite, the crossover bag, should be a part of every girl’s collection for spring. I use them for dinners, parties, shopping, and more. This bag perfectly fits your money, id, phone, and camera that you want to take out with you to a party and keeps them safely carried across your shoulder. This way of carrying a small bag allows you to be hands-free for dancing, walking, shopping, or any other activity. Also, with sequins being a hot spring trend, a small, sequined crossover purse subtly adds a little glitz to our look…definitely a must-have item!
Finally, stack up your bracelet collection with bangles. Yes, the bulkier, layered look is back as opposed to a dainty chain. These runway bracelets are easy to replicate with inexpensive versions from stores such as Forever 21, T.J.Maxx, or Aldo. I also checked out Rue 21, right on campus, and they have a whole collection of bangles of different styles at very decent prices. Some of the popular bangles are either wooden (great with the wooden platform!) or metal. Others have studded or diamond accents for a classy, fancier accent. I recommend layering different bracelets with various textures together for a one-of-a-kind look that you created to fit your own personal style.
Overall these are some of my favorite spring accessories for every girl! Since many of us are on a tight budget, we should use accessories to inexpensively dress up a basic t-shirt and jeans instantly. And by being aware of purchasing accessories that are versatile, we can reuse and mix-and-match a few accessories for a multitude of looks.
