Unlike some of my schoolmates, my spring break did not involve travel to a tropical location nor crazy nights out. It was quiet, a week of catching up on sleep, spending time with family and friends and looking for work. While not the stereotypical one depicted on MTV, it was a great spring break.

Taking Care of Yourself
Catching up on sleep, taking time to relax, and other activities recharged my batteries for the second half of the semester. Due to the hectic nature of an 18 credit semester, getting run-down was expected. It wasn’t until I actually slowed down a little that I realized how crazy this busy schedule was making me.

It is doubtful that I am the only member of the Her Campus community to feel this way. The lesson here is to take some time to take some time for you. That is the way to make sure you both feel and look your best. It’s easier to get rid of those dark circles with proper sleep than cover-up.

Playing Catch-up
Even if you don’t live on-campus, chances are you do not have much time off-campus during the average week. Spending a little extra time with your family and friends who are also home is a great way to spend the break. Maintaining relationships outside of college is important because chances are your childhood pals are likely to remain your friends for life if you keep up with them.

Also family is important. They are the ones who will know you the longest, so a little time with them is well-spent. It also has the added benefit of making your parents a little more likely to help you out when your bank account gets low.

Surveying
Summer isn’t that far away. To spend at least a day of the break looking for jobs is not a bad idea, particularly as applying earlier for summer work gives you an edge over the high school crowd. Also the fact that no working papers are needed anymore makes applying for a job much less of a hassle.

If an internship is what you need, do the same. There are probably at least a few opportunities in the area, meaning a shorter commute instead of applying to one in New York or Philadelphia.
