Lose the Freshman 15: Saying No Gets Easier Every Day

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Sometimes saying no can be the hardest thing in the world.

Saying no to that large slice of pepperoni pizza. Saying no to that homemade chocolate chip cookie. And saying no to that late-night run to McDonald’s for some French fries.

AVOID UNHEALTHY FOODSWhatever the food temptation may be (because let’s face it, everyone’s idea of the perfect fattening item is different), the hardest part about dieting is definitely learning to say no.

But I’ve discovered through my journey on SELF magazine’s Jumpstart Diet that saying no gets easier and easier to do with each day that passes, because I’ve realized that the things that I’m saying no to are the things that I don’t even really want to eat in the first place.

And I’ve realized that the only way I’m ever going to reach my goal is by learning to say no.

Sure, a huge slice of cheesecake sounds good in theory. And sure, the thought of a greasy hamburger with a side of French fries and a large strawberry milkshake may make my mouth water a little. But realistically, after eating anything that fattening, I just feel disgusting afterwards. And when I say disgusting, I mean so full so that I can barely move and so bloated that I’m scared to slip on a pair of jeans for fear that they may not button.

I can now confidently say no to a cookie or a slice of pizza, because I know eating those items are only going to make me feel gross. And they’re not going to get me any closer to my goal weight of 140 pounds. Luckily, saying no to fattening foods has become automatic for me, and the best part is that I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.

The Jumpstart Diet allows me to eat around 1,600 calories a day. And I’ve found that this is just enough calories to balance a healthy diet, feel full at every meal  and still enjoy the food that I eat. And, it gives me enough calories at the end of the day to enjoy a nice little dessert (even though I’m not really a fan of dessert in general).

Regardless, I’ve realized that saying no is easy. And it can be easy for you too, just as long as you keep your eyes on the prize (because eating those fattening foods are only going to deter you from reaching your goals).

While you should say no to fattening foods, you should definitely say yes to SELF magazine’s amazing deal going on right now – a year-long subscription for only $8! Grab it while it’s hot and hopefully reading the magazine will inspire you to join me on the Jumpstart Diet and on this weight-loss journey!

She is heavily involved on the UF campus and dedicates most of her time to her various organizations and to her friends. She loves people, magazines, sports and social media, and she hopes to combine all three in her job someday. For now, she aspires to attend Law School and specialize in Media Law. She secretly aspires to be Chelsea Handler, but she's happy being herself for the moment, just as long as she can lose the freshman 15 this semester.
