The Real Deal: The Truth About Ice Cream in BsAs

Ice cream has been an integral part of my life since I was about 2 years old, when I developed a serious love affair with vanilla ice cream and rainbow sprinkles. I average about three cones per week at home and while I’m at school (Campus Candy has revolutionized Madison ice cream for me), and I fully intended to keep up this delicious habit while studying abroad.

Unbeknownst to me, Argentina is actually famous for its thick, creamy ice cream. It took me about 2.3 seconds to realize this, and ever since then I have made it my personal duty to find the best ice cream spots in town. Here’s the scoop (pun intended):

  1. Munchi’s: In my humble opinion, Munchi’s serves up the best ice cream in town. No matter which Munchi’s you go to, the staff is oh-so-accommodating and more than willing to let you try multiple flavors until you find your favorite. I highly recommend the banana split
  2. Freddo: Perhaps Argentina’s most famous ice cream chain, Freddo’s stores are trendy and always bustling. The ice cream is a bit overpriced, but they offer far more flavors than Munchi’s, and their cones are especially delicious. Definitely try the Dulce de Leche con Almendras (dulce de leche with almonds).
  3. Zog: This one is for the fro-yo lovers, since no ice cream list would be complete without a lower-cal treat. Zog’s yogurt is natural and has limited flavors – usually plain and one fruity flavor. The toppings are the store’s redeeming qualities, as the selection is huge and includes essentials like coconut and chocolate chips. Try a wheatgrass shot, too, if you’re feeling super healthy.
