On-Campus Construction in Journalism Building Inconvenient

I’ve had classes in the other buildings around Columbia’s campus, but my senior year, I’ve only had them in the Journalism Department’s building. This seems to be the place where I spend most of my time, and it would be nice if there weren’t construction going on directly outside. It may not seem like that big of a deal, but the sidewalk being closed and noise created are so inconvenient and annoying to myself and, I’m assuming, other journalism students.

I’m used to walking past the University Center of Chicago and Panera Bread after I get off the Red Line train at the Harrison stop, but with the sidewalks being closed for some type of road construction, I have to walk across State Street, walk all the way down Congress Parkway by Dairy Queen and then cross again on Wabash Avenue. That’s a lot to be doing!

So I’ve decided to reroute my everyday walk to the journalism building. Now when I get off the train, I take Polk Street and then cross on Wabash Avenue. There are no construction signs, closed sidewalks or noisy construction machines. I’m sure the sidewalks and streets will look nice once they are done, but this on-campus construction is a such hassel!
