Once upon a time there was young lady (we’ll call her Jane) who sent five beautiful photographs of herself to her longtime boyfriend (we’ll call him Dick), who went to another college all the way on the other side of the country in some far, far away Siberian-like habitat called Vermont. These were, without a doubt, Dick’s favorite pictures of Jane due largely to the fact that she seemed to have forgotten to put her clothes on before taking said photographs. Oops. Now, you may ask, what’s the big deal? It IS her longtime boyfriend and he’s probably (hopefully) seen her sans clothes many times before. No harm in some long distance funsies, right? Hmmm … debatable.
You see it just so happens Dick had this psycho jerk of a brother who HATED Jane owing to the disgustingly whipped behaviors Dick had displayed ever since Jane entered the picture … so to speak. Anyway, one night Dick accidentally left the nakie photos on his desktop and guess who found them? Yes, that’s right, the psycho jerk of a brother. Long story short: the photos were first broadcasted via email around Dick’s school, then Jane’s, then finally ended up POSTER SIZE in the stands of the opposing team during the most important football game of Dick’s collegiate career. What’s even more unfortunate – Jane was there – sitting next to Dick’s parents.
Sext message fail.
To those of you who are sextually active: after hearing that story you may say to yourself … That’s it! I’m done. I’m never going to sext again. Yeah, well, don’t lie. You will. Wanna know how I know? Celebrities get caught sending naked photos and dirty texts all the time. We all hear about them on ET, see the photos online, and yet … sexting still not only exists, but also is a very common (and growing) practice. So yes, sexting can result in some serious consequences, but if people are willing to risk such unimaginable embarrassment, there must be an upside to shooting your beau a dirty little text …
Most Stanford students are at a wonderfully crazy and confusing time in their lives especially with regards to relationships. We’re all trying to survive Saturday/Sunday/everyday hangovers, snatch up that diploma, and hone our general brilliance and/or athletic superstardom into a specific career, all the while crushing on, hooking up with, and dating other collegiate geniuses. We’re being pulled in a million different directions and relationships, whether officially labeled or not (ugh), can become quite difficult. And as simple as it sounds, sometimes sexting spices things up, keeps us on our toes, and all in all just makes things a little more effffing fun!
Though Jane and Dick have since worked past their own little Ivy League sex scandal, their story should be a reminder to us all: be careful when sexting!!! Don’t include your face, check the recipient 3, 4, or 5 times before pressing send and above all … trust the beneficiary wholeheartedly. In a world full of celebrity sex tapes, free internet porn, and Tiger Woods, dirty texting can seem a little less scandalous each day, so to all of you sexters out there please remember … sexting IS indeed dirty and most risqué. So please, for your own sake, press send with all the love and caution you can muster or don’t press send at all.
To conclude I’ve composed a very informative and not at all official “Pros and Cons” list regarding sexting. Please note: This is not a scientific list. I’m a writer. This list is based off a compilation of my own personal experiences and those of my friends. I mean … none of us have ever sent a sext message …

1. Run the risk of exposing your body to the world via social networks, email, and/or football games, thus generating extreme embarrassment.
Basically, ladies and gents, TO SEXT OR NOT TO SEXT comes down to one, basic principle: trust.
How much do you trust yourself and how much do you trust your sext-ual partner?
Good luck answering that one. Go Stanford!
