Your Next President: Why Each Candidate Deserves Your Vote

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

If you haven’t been living under a rock lately, you know that Student Union elections are coming up on April 14th. This year, President Daniel Acheampong has led us through a Presidential transition, some tough times, and brought about many positive changes. Now that summer is just around the corner, three worthy candidates are competing to take his place and carry on the legacy he leaves. Further down on our site, you can find a profile of each individual candidate, however we wanted to give them a chance to tell you how they want you to envision their presidential career. All three candidates took time out of their busy campaign schedules to give incredibly genuine and enthusiastic answers. Here is what they wanted you to know:

Akash Vadalia ’12

Major: Biology and HSSP

“I am the best candidate for several reasons. I see myself as an outgoing individual that will never stop or stumble with issues that may arise. All of my friends and family call me the hardest worker because I always put in more then I get out sometimes. I will always work hard for things I believe in and the Student Union is very most of the heart lies in terms of activities and extracurricular work. I am also the most experienced candidate for this position.

I have been in the Student Union for 3 years rising from a Class Senator to the Chair of the Finance Board, to the Treasurer, and hopefully soon to become President. I also feel like I am the most committed to my job this past year committing countless number of hours to getting every club’s money straightened away and I will continue to do that next year as President. I feel like I am also the nicest and most approachable candidate as this past year I have approached hundreds of club leaders and I have received great feedback on my approachability and kindness to help them out with their club’s finances. Many students told me that I went above and beyond what past Treasurers have done for their club. I hope to continue to do that as President as well.

Voting for me will only better your chances to get exactly what you, as a student, want. You should trust and know that I will go to the world’s end to fight and work towards giving the campus what it deserves. I have changed the Treasury and the club finances to give clubs more flexibility, hope, and success and I hope to do that same as President for ever aspect and community of this campus.”

Amber Kornreich ’12

Major: Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies Minor: Near Eastern And Judaic Studies

“I love Brandeis. I have the passion and energy to lead you in challenging Brandeis together. We CAN push the administration for housing renovations and extended dining hours. We CAN make Student Union a meaningful and active partner to student clubs working for the betterment of the world we live in.

I will be a fearless crusader for the issues students care about by frequently polling students and actually asking. Plus, the presidency could use a some girl power. Decisions should not be made behind closed doors on the Third Floor of the campus center. Student Democracy only works when everyone participates- let’s have record voter turnout THIS YEAR. Please get in touch with me by email  at akorn@brandeis.edu to chat about how we can make Brandeis the best she can be!”

Herbert Rosen ‘12
Major: American Studies/Journalism & Legal Studies

“Brandeis Undergraduates, should I be elected I promise to be an engaged and active member in your
community. My experience as a student leader and active member of the University should speak for itself in regards to my passion for Brandeis.  I have coordinated a successful Orientation, giving hundreds of new students a warm welcome to our Brandeis family. I have devoted much time and effort to projects, ranging from volunteering at a homeless shelter, to producing a sold-out musical. Whether on the stage or as part of a team, I strive to be the best. It makes no difference as to what I pursue – my greatest efforts will always be put forward.

My time in all different facets of the University has prepared me to be the face of the Student Body. I have been an athlete, an artist, an activist, a performer and participated in cultural and religious programs. I am the best candidate to represent the Student Body. I am ready for the demands of the Presidency, and I can assure you that I will not let you down. My platform is active and exciting while being feasible and thorough. But most importantly, my actions as President will primarily be your call. From me you can expect someone who is there to listen. From me you can expect someone who after listening will put your ideas and thoughts into reality.

Let me listen to you; I promise results. I promise honesty and communication, while guaranteeing efficiency, excitement and most importantly – passion. I have the sense of accountability necessary to be the Union President. Place your trust in my capable hands. Brandeis Undergraduates, I have chosen to pursue the Union Presidency because I believe I can release the full potential of the Student Union. Please consider me as a candidate who can give you all the Union has to offer. You will not be disappointed.”
