Lose the Freshman 15: Have Your Cake & Eat It, Too!

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Hey there collegiettes™!

If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, you’ll know that I have a serious sweet tooth… like, serious.

In fact, my blogging days began with a baking blog that I started, a huge factor that played into my current journey for losing the freshman 15.

My dessert temptations have haunted me literally everyday of my diet so far. My family always has snacks and ice cream around, and I’m proud to say my mother is a better baker than Martha Stewart. My friends are all foodies and our friend dates are often dessert dates. My coworkers always buy boxes of these collasel donuts into the office at least three days a week. It’s everywhere. 1337793 67309239

And to add to this, I’m now in what my family refers to as “birthday season.” From February to June, we all have birthdays, meaning lots and lots of birthday cake.

My father’s birthday just recently passed and I even thought of looking up some healthy treats, such as a recipe that omits dairy or uses natural products, but what’s the point? It’s a birthday! It’s a celebration!

However, on my journey with SELF so far, I’ve come to believe that a little extra snacking or eating not-so-healthy meals is perfectly OK if you make up for it with an extra workout or cutting the calories somewhere else. I think that if I’m so super strict with my calorie intake and fitness, I’m only going to tempted even more than usual.

I don’t want to be anyone’s buzz kill regarding food, especially on someone’s birthday. So, have your cake and eat it, too (but maybe just a small slice)!
