After my hectic couple weeks of jet setting (first Chile and then Iguazu!), I could not have been more excited to spend the weekend in fabulous Buenos Aires. Two of my roommates are still on their traveling kick – they headed to Macchu Picchu in Peru – so my other roommate and I decided to live it up this weekend and go all out.
We had the intention of waking up bright and early every morning and getting our tan on, but unfortunately the weather gods seem to be working against us and have instead sent copious amounts of rain our way. We made up for our now pasty complexions by treating ourselves to manicures and pedicures at our favorite salon; as an added bonus, they played the entire second season of Sex and the City as we were getting pampered. So great. We also got some shopping in, of course, since all the stores within a 50-mile radius of us seem to have gotten ALL new merchandise in the past week…kinda great, kinda dangerous. Anyway, after our shopping and salon excursions, we decided to be spontaneous and head to Bond Street, a famous tattoo and piercing hotspot. The place looks like a giant mall filled only with tattoo and piercing parlors, with huge neon signs everywhere and the most bizarre, eclectic people you have ever seen. My friend and I stuck out like sore thumbs, and we made a mad dash to the nearest piercing shop we found and kindly asked the wolf of a man who was helping us (seriously, the amount of hair on his face and on his head was astounding) to pierce our ears. He told us it was a piece of cake, since he’s used to piercing assorted body parts and whatnot. My friend got her ears pierced for the first time (I was so excited I documented the whole thing with photos, making us stick out even more), and I decided to get another cartilage just for kicks and giggles. It doesn’t necessarily look good, but whatever, I’m over it.
Our nights have been filled with club-going and bar-hopping, and it’s been just fabulous. We tried out a new bar on Thursday, called Magdalena’s. There was a decent crowd and a dark, smoky ambiance, but the bar itself was pretty small. Last night we went to our beloved Crobar, and as per usual, it was amazing. We got home in the wee hours of the morning and are still recovering…but it’s Saturday night, so we must persevere!
