Have you ever tried taking the commuter rail, to the T, transferring twice and an hour and a half later making it to Logan? Or do you bite the bullet and pay the minimum $60 cab ride and sit in traffic during rush hour in order to get to the airport? Perhaps you have been able to split the taxi with someone, making your cost only $30, but after tip and tolls, it winds up becoming a pricy ordeal.

After one of my friends vented to me about her public transportation mess, which took longer than her actual flight itself, and after I complained to her about how expensive my taxi ride was, we vowed to find a solution. Well guys, mission accomplished. I present you with “Rachel’s Rides.”

This service was started by a Brandeis senior, Rachel Karpoff, who “notic[ed] many of her peers needed rides to the airport, bus, and train stations on a frequent basis” but were paying outrageous cab fares in order to get to their destinations. She decided that she could drive them instead for a much more reasonable fare. Rachel chauffeured students for an entire year, however after her small business began to grow, she hired other drivers to help her out.

They now take you to five destinations which include: Logan International Airport, Back Bay Station, South Station, Route 128 Amtrak, and Riverside. All prices are listed on the website for one, two and three or more passengers. In order to sign up, you just need to fill out the form on their website, and you are guaranteed a response within 24 hours of them receiving your submission.

Last Thursday my friend and I decided to take a chance on Rachel’s Rides in order to get to the airport… we just had to see if it was too good to be true. The driver was at the admissions parking lot promptly at 2:45 pm, which meant no wait time… the first good sign. He then got out of the car, put our bags in the trunk, and we were off. While his car did have a little clutter, it was fine by us because we were too busy chatting away and listening to the great music he had playing on the radio. A mere twenty minutes later and we were there. My friend was dumbfounded… she did not realize how short the ride is to get to the airport since the last time she went it took her more than six times that! After a pleasant ride, not only were we happy but our wallets were also.

So from now on, we have committed to only taking Rachel’s Rides whenever we need to get to the airport. Thankfully now we know the best way to go!
