You know that dress at the back of your closet, the one you’ve never worn? It’s green and floral and it’s just a bit too edgy for your taste. You’ve tried it on countless times, but you never quite make it out the door. Something always stops you. What is it? It looks good. It’s mad cute. And, then you realize it: you just don’t think you can pull it off.

What’s with this? This whole thing about how only some people can “pull off” certain looks. Her Campus Emory firmly disagrees. The key to looking good in your clothes is feeling comfortable in your own skin. When deliberating whether or not to wear an outfit three things are key: coordinate with your style, dress according to your body type, and rock your outfit with killer confidence!

The piece that you want to wear should match the overall style of your outfit. For example, feather earrings with a preppy polo might look a little out of place.  But, pair them with a flow-y dress and you’ll have a fabulous look!

It’s possible, though, that the item you want to wear doesn’t go with your usual style. The great thing is that we all have the ability to choose or change our style! You could be preppy one day, and bohemian the next – there is no rule saying that you can’t.

The thing to keep in mind is to wear the right size. Stay true to your body type. No one looks good when they try to squeeze into something two sizes too small. On the other hand, a shirt that is meant to be formfitting will probably not be flattering if you wear it in a size too big.

Above all else- be gutsy! Finding the confidence to wear what you want is half the battle. If you are wearing jewelry that makes a statement, then have the bold attitude to go with it. You could be wearing a lumpy paper sack, but with killer confidence, you could be a runway model.

So, there you have it. You are confident and stylish. Dig out that adorable dress and put it on!

Jessica lives her life at several speeds. She talks too fast, eats too slow and over-analyzes too much.  When she’s not telling long-winded stories, sitting alone at the dinner table, or staring off into space, Jessica loves all things creative. Screenwriter, play director and poet at age 9, songwriter and choreographer at age 16, now, at 23, all she really wants to do is write, help others, and post Instagrams.  As a social media coordinator for multiple fashion brands, and a post-grad writer for Her Campus, she gets to do just that. Jessica is a Midwestern girl from the suburbs of Chicago, but she fell in love with city living during a summer internship in the Big Apple, and now calls NYC home. Jessica loves chocolate milkshakes, dance parties, Chippewa Ranch Camp, Friends re-runs, Chuck Bass and of course, spending time with her fans (read: family and friends).
