If you complain about the Purchase water supply, think about the water supply in Togo, the Central African Republic, and Vietnam. The founders of the Chasing the Moon Foundations, Jessica Purnick and Chelsea Whitaker, have thought about it and took action. The result was UNICEF Benefit Concert, held on the April 22nd.

According to Scott Interrante, one of the coordinators, he initially came up with the idea of a concert that would feature a few friends and a live orchestra. After mentioning the idea to the Chasing the Moon Foundations, Purnick and Whitaker asked Interrante if they could combine forces.

“The concert is a fabulous collaboration of an eclectic group of individuals united together under one cause: which is to raise money with the power of music,” said Freshman August Berger, a double bass performance major here at Purchase College.

According to Purnick, the benefit concert raised $443.14 for the UNICEF Tap Water Project. “We were really happy with the turnout and the performers were all phenomenal,” she said.

“Each event we host will support a different charity.  We are very passionate about raising awareness on campus.  We are very passionate when it comes to helping others and we want to share the joy we feel with everyone else,” said Whitaker.

Christie is a sophomore journalism major at Purchase College in NY, but she’s a Jersey Girl at heart. When she isn’t studying (or being sarcastic), she spends her summers selling crafty jewelry on Long Beach Island and making coffee for her superiors at Parker and Partner’s Marketing Resources. She’s a sucker for debates, sushi, and a really good book. Her dream job (this week) would be at the Village Voice, but she’d be happy with a byline and paycheck. She hopes to make HerCampus bigger and better than ever at Purchase and is excited for the chance to work with these lovely HC ladies.
