Okay, admit it.  When you were a little girl you dreamt of one day being a princess complete with a fairy-tale wedding and arriving to a castle in a horse-drawn carriage.  Now this Friday, April 29 you can watch a real life fairy-tale take place as Kate Middleton marries Prince William and becomes a princess herself.  This once-in-a-lifetime historical event is not to be missed, and what better way to enjoy it than to host your own viewing party?  Here are some great, simple, and easy tricks to feel as though you are attending the wedding yourself at Westminster Abbey.

Invitations
Go all out formal and invite all of your friends to your viewing party.  There are a multitude of websites available to make the invitations look like an actual wedding invite.  Make sure to mention the formal dress code.

Décor, Décor, Décor
Decorate your dorm or apartment and transform it to your party gala.  Hang up mini British flags.  Get fresh flowers from one of the local shops around the village.  And check out Mxyplyzyk (pronounced Mix-ee-pliz-ik for all of you wondering) in the West Village for cute trinkets imported from Britain, such as these waving Queen Elizabeth miniature dolls.

Food
The wedding will be long and the last thing that you want is hungry guests.  But we’re not microwaving a bag of popcorn for this one.  First, tea is a must.  Whether plain or flavored, it is not to be missed (side note – you get bonus points for a really cute tea set!).  Scones and crumpets are also necessities with jam and finger-sandwiches.  Check out Tea & Sympathy in the West Village for some great British comfort-food – even if you’re not having a party consider going out this weekend with a few friends and at least having your own British lunch or dinner celebration.

Dress Code
Encourage all of your guests to wear their finest formal wear and all you collegiettes™better get out those extravagant hats!  Even consider holding a competition for best dressed, most creative costume, and Royal Family look-a-likes with cute prizes you can get at affordable prices also at Mxyplyzyk.

If waking up at four in the morning our time on Friday just isn’t going to do it for you, just tape or DVR the wedding.  That way you can host the party on your own time and make it convenient to make sure that all of your guests can actually come and be fully awake.  Plus, you’ll probably want to keep the tape to show your kids one day.
