Between midterms and planning the next online issue of Stitch (due to come out May 3rd), Editor-in-Chief Nadina is a busy girl to say the least.  Although she’s still getting adjusted to the position she assumed at the end of winter quarter, it’s a job she seems perfect for as she talks about her love of fashion and passion for creativity.

How did you first get involved with Stitch?
I started my freshman year fall quarter as a blogger for stitchfashion.com.  I noticed that within our staff there was a need for a photo shoot coordinator, because it’s a time consuming job and photo shoots are such an integral part of the print and online versions of the magazine. So, I came up with a new position and exec really liked it, thought we needed it, and named me it. It was really cool to be on exec as a freshman, and after doing that for a year I applied for editor-in-chief at the end of winter quarter and got it.  Needless to say, I’m really thrilled.

How did you feel being chosen as editor-in-chief, and what’s been the hardest part so far?
It’s been a complete joy to get to work with our incredible staff. We have so many talented people that work on Stitch, so to get to work closely with every person in every department is really exciting and I get to learn a lot.  One of the biggest challenges I think I’ve faced so far is dealing with the expansion of Stitch’s reach.  We’ve started a new online monthly magazine and we’re expanding our staff as well as our blog.  So, learning the ropes of how it’s been done in the past while dealing with this expansion has challenging but really fun.

When you’re not working on Stitch, what else do you like to do?
I serve on my sorority’s executive board and I really enjoy getting to be involved in a larger way in my chapter. I love hanging out with friends, going to restaurants in Chicago (in fact, it’s where she was headed right after the interview), painting, going to the beach, which is a little hard in this weather, and using Photoshop-it’s relaxing to me in a weird way.  Of course, I also have to find a balance with my schoolwork.
What’s your dream guy like (when you have time for them that is)?
I’m drawn to a good sense of humor, athleticism, and a personality that I mesh well with.  The guy can be the hottest person in the room, but if I can’t hold a conversation with him, it’s a deal breaker.

Why are you so passionate about fashion?
I really like the creativity that fashion allows me to communicate in my everyday life. Because my mom was an art major, a big part of my childhood was art, so now one of the things I hold most dear is the ability for self expression which fashion lets me explore.  From a completely little girl sense, it’s fun to play dress up in the morning.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is California girl trying to be French. I love big bright colors and dresses.  I love wearing my vans, but I most admire and try to emulate the classic French woman’s style.  To a certain extent, the product of meshing those two fashion locales results in a sort of eccentric wardrobe, but sometimes it can be really great.

Do you have a go-to fashion item?
My go-to item is my denim button down shirt because it’s just as comfortable as a white t-shirt, but with a little more style.
