Breaking Fashion News: Kate Middleton’s Wedding Look

If you’ve ever wondered if you could snag the heir to the British throne, well, that question was answered months ago. Sorry, ladies, he’s taken. But another question arose the day Wills and Kate were engaged: What would Kate wear down the aisle? As of this morning, the dress drama is over.

Kate Middleton – now known as Princess Catherine – chose a custom design by Sarah Burton, the head designer of British label Alexander McQueen. Kate was closely involved in the design process of the dress. Her gown featured a sweetheart bodice with a handmade lace overlay, a nipped-in waist, and an A-line skirt with a dramatic 8.8 foot train. The gown was timeless, elegant, and – obviously – fit for a princess.

The princess also wore a Cartier diamond tiara, originally made in 1936 and purchased for the Queen Mother herself. It was passed down to her daughter, now Queen Elizabeth, who lent it to Kate for the big day.

Her earrings were designed by Robinson Pelham. The diamond oak leaves with diamond acorns suspended in the middle of a pear-shaped diamond drop represent the Middleton family coat of arms, which features oak leaves and acorns.

When Princess Diana chose a wedding dress with voluminous sleeves, she practically dictated the bridal trends of the next decade. Will Kate’s dress have the same effect? Would you wear a Kate-inspired wedding dress down the aisle? What did you think of her dress?
