Even though he was born and raised in Hollywood, California, Rodney Taylor is not your typical celebrity. He is a current professor at The University of Colorado, Boulder and teaches Religious studies. He has written over ten books where his focus is mainly on religions of East Asia. Rodney loves to learn and talk to different people about their religions preferences and understand different perspectives and ideas behind people’s thoughts. He is intrigued by the idea that everyone has a different belief in order to achieve deep self-reflection.
He told me that his beliefs consist of a mix of Buddhism, Confucianism, and Quakerism. Rodney has a passion for writing and his favorite location to write is far away in his mountain retreat, away from civilization. At his mountain getaway he enjoys exploring the area for different types of rocks, he has a whole collection and special tools to help him in the process of collecting. Rodney has some of the best stories that are almost unbelievable they are so obscure and the way he tells his stories gets his entire class laughing in unison.
Rodney told our class about how he met his spouse (he won’t refer to her as his wife, because she won’t let him) and how he was the TA and his spouse was a student. I must make an important note that they did not date while in this setting but years after. They were married after only six weeks of dating and they have been together for over forty years! This undercover celebrity is a one of a kind person who is so knowledgeable and interesting to talk to, if you see him walking, (he walks from his home in Boulder to get to campus everyday) you ought to have a conversation with him, he will really entertain you.Â
