Things About College We Won’t Miss Over Summer!

Summer 2011 is finally here! Congrats on completing another semester at N.C. State University! Although we are all proud Wolfpack, here are a few things we WON’T have to worry about over summer that college life, well, forces on us!

Waking up in the middle of the night because of one of the following:

Your roommate is grinding his or her teeth, a train is barreling past your dorm room, a jackhammer is blasting the bricks apart right outside your window, a fire alarm goes off, people in the room above you decide to start playing basketball, the campus wide security system has a test, the maintenance guy decides it is a decent hour to fix your microwave, your roommate’s lover decides to start lovin’, the TV starts randomly moaning because the show you left on turned into a porn, the dining hall food isn’t settling with your stomach, your suitemates decided to have a flash rave with 33 other people and a dog, skateboarders want to improve their kick flips outside your window, a drunk student falls into a bush and the skateboarders laugh at him, a terrorist is killed and students start running around campus screaming, your roommate starts talking to you…in his or her sleep, etc.

Sharing any of the following:
Your clothes, your bathroom supplies, your room, your bed, your food, your books, your computer, your money, your kitchen utensils, your grades, your thoughts, your time, your movies, your weekend, your ink, your pens and pencils, and your chores.

Counting out every single coin you have just to get something to eat:
Quarters are your best friend when it comes down to the change in your pocket. Next to that is finding a dime on the floor that you thought was a penny…sure every penny counts, but dimes are so much better! Hopefully over summer you’ll have a job where you won’t have to live off of the change in the bottom of your bookbag. Yay, you can do laundry whenever you please!

Staying motivated:
We attend class, take tests and quizzes, ask questions, go to review sessions, meet for office hours…okay, we might not do all of that, but why do we have to write papers in math classes!? We do our best to stay motivated but then they throw more silly work on us!

Tripping over bricks:
Now you’ll just have to worry about keeping your balance in the sand on the beach, walking around in your cute summer heels, or hanging out on the slippery poolside.

Finding some alone time:
On a campus this huge with so many students, it’s hard to find any peace and quiet. Sometimes I would find myself lurking in the empty parts of campus on a Friday afternoon just because I knew no one would be around and I would be able to finally hear my own thoughts. This summer, you may have TOO much quiet sitting in your house staring at the dog, so call up your hometown friends and have a night out with some music, laughter and unnecessary loudness.

Say goodbye to all of the above, because this summer you’ll be able to relax a little and forget about the college life while you enjoy the warm ocean breeze – except for you summer school kids…sorry. HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! See you in the fall!
