Everything you ever wanted to know about the Royal Wedding – from a Londoners’ Perspective

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

I met the wonderful Hannah Skelley during the summer of 2010 while we were fashion and beauty interns at IPC Media. We had a ton of fun getting to know each other, whether it was at work or on our lunch dates, but of course, I had to come back to America to study. Even though the Royal Wedding hullabaloo has died down a bit, I wanted to hear her perspective on the whole ordeal as a Clothes Show Coordinator for Vidal Sassoon and British native. Skelley also offers a look inside of recent fashion and beauty trends across the pond.

HC: Since you’re from the United Kingdom, are you amazed at how obsessed the United States is with the Royal Wedding?
HS: I think it’s great that everyone has got so involved and that America has joined in so much. It was nice to celebrate something, instead of doom and gloom all the time!

HC: Were you in town for it? If so, did you watch it live?
HS: I was actually on holiday, but I watched the build-up constantly on CNN whilst away, but on the actual day we ended up watching it in a British bar with bunting and wedding cake! Very British.

HC: What do you think of Kate Middleton’s sense of style?
HS: I love her style! She always looks so perfect and chic; my look is completely different to hers, but I have been going for job interviews recently and I’ve defiantly been taking a few styling tips to look more prim and proper!

HC: What makes British style unique?
HS: It’s all about being classic with British style; if you look back at Burberry, for example, you have the trench coat, which is pure British sensibility, but it also has a strong international recognition.

HC: What are your favourite places to shop and why?
HS: Oh gosh, I could be here forever, but I’d have to say Topshop, Asos and a secret fan of Primark because if you have a good rummage, you can get some really nice things, and it’s cheap as well!

HC: You’re trained as a makeup artist; do you believe the rumours that Middleton did her own makeup for the wedding?
HS: Her makeup is always immaculate anyway on a day-to-day basis, so yes, I’d have to say I believe the rumours. I think anyone is crazy anyway not to do their own makeup on their wedding day because you know what suits you.

HC: As far as makeup trends, is there anything new and exciting hitting the streets in London that Americans may not know about yet?
HS: I don’t know if it’s been brought out in the U.S. yet but YSL is bringing out six brand new shades of the … touché éclat, and I know it’s not arriving here until September and only going to be out in Selfridges as a special addition to start with. I found out about it assisting alongside the beauty editor at the last magazine I was interning for.

I also love this from Benefit. … It comes out bright orange but will look amazing dabbed on your cheeks for that summer glow.

This is also a huge craze minx nails! They are foils melted under UV light then put onto your toenails or finger nails; it lasts for weeks!
