Welcome back Collegiettes™! Before we all noticed, the summer holiday came to an end. It’s time for us to embrace a fresh, new semester, and as always Her Campus Mizzou is here to help. Below is a list of must-have school supplies we put together for you ladies, whether you have just started college or will be graduating in a few months. Let’s start with the basics and explore along the way.
The Basics
Planner
I couldn’t stress enough how crucial a planner is for incoming freshmen. If I could only take one thing with me out of the following items, it’d probably be a planner. And no, I don’t trust putting everything in your smartphone or laptop.

Notebooks
This might sound like a no-brainer but try jotting down story ideas on your notebooks when possible. If you are a journalism student, it’s definitely a good habit to develop!

Little pouch
An absolute must-have in terms of organizing trivial items. Put a pack of pocketsize Kleenex in it, and you will soon learn how important that is.
Lip balm
Trust me when I say the last thing you want people to notice is your seriously chapped lips. Try tinted chapstick or better yet lip stains to add just a pop of color to your lips.
We recommend: Stain and Shine Lipgloss by Sephora (only $3!)
Water bottle
Not only is it eco-friendly, but it encourages you to drink a lot of water, which leads to great health and amazing skin!

Jacket
Always, always bring a jacket with you, especially right now when it’s hot outside but freezing in the air-conditioned classrooms.
Pad/tampon holder
Simple enough—not everyone wants to be on that intimate level with you.
Flash drive
It’s smart to put one in your little pouch or pencil case. Backing up your laptop on a regular basis is key—and I’m telling you this as a junior.
Sunglasses
They protect your eyes from direct sunlight and ultraviolet radiation, cover your dark circles and add a hint of attitude to your style. Enough said.
The Advanced
Eye drop
Besides easing itchy and dry eyes, eye drops can also be used in one way that might have never occurred to you before—to soothe skin problems. Don’t fret when you pop a pimple on your forehead or when a mosquito bites your right on your chin. Just drip a couple of eye drops on the problem area(s), and it will work magic for you.
Foldable flats
I know this might sound like too much. But for those of you Collegiettes™ who for whatever reason have to run around campus in killer heels, carrying a pair of lightweight, foldable flats will save your soles. They are tiny enough to fit into your clutch and are more presentable and versatile than those flippy floppies!

Umbrella/hat
If you haven’t already noticed, Columbia weather can be very deceiving. Carrying a retractable umbrella cannot hurt. Although, I also found that wearing one of those self-deceptive “you-can’t-see-me” baseball hats also come in handy during drizzles.
Simple makeup bag
When I say simple, I actually mean it. Yes, you might need a mascara that will trick people into asking “Are they real?” But on school days put away false eyelashes, lipliner, setting powder, the coastal scent 88 palette. All you need is eyeliner, blush, and maybe a tiny pot or tube of concealer. Do your makeup at home. You want a little touch-up, not a make-over, between classes.
The Ultimate
Minimergency® Survival Kit
This teeny, tiny pouch does it all. It includes a variety of goodies, such as hairspray, dental floss, nail polish remover, stain remover, deodarant towelettes and many more!
