It’s about that time when we are forced to part ways with our favorite summer sandals, shorts and tanks to make room in our closet for warmer attire. Some looks coming back this fall never really left, like blazers, floral prints and bags big enough to hold two or three babies. But many new trends are also in and I’m excited to see them on campus!

Utilitarian Boots

This might be my favorite trend right now. I used to think that I couldn’t pull off lace up combat boots but after buying a pair I have totally changed my mind. They can be dressed up or down and are super practical–unless you get ones with high heels. If you can walk around campus in those all day I say more power to you!

Look 1: Try wearing lace up boots with cute socks peeking out the top with your favorite summer dress or shorts and a loose-fitting top while it’s still warm outside.

Look 2: Keep it simple. Wear these boots with a pair of skinny jeans tucked in or folded just above them paired with just about any shirt! Colored pants will work too, just be careful with pairing them with army pants because you don’t want to overdo the military theme.

Bright Colored Pants

Bright colors in general are in right now (especially the combination of orange and purple) but I love the outburst of fun colored pants that are coming out this fall. Don’t write this one off right away—I understand that not everyone was born to rock hot pink pants. There are different levels for this trend. Even jeans in bright blue as opposed to the blue hues we are used to seeing everyday could be an interesting change in your wardrobe. My personal favorite style of this trend is with cords because you can get them in any color from chocolate to bright red and they’ll keep you warm this fall.

Stackable Rings

Wearing multiple rings on top of each other is very in right now, especially gold rings. They can be plain and simple with interesting designs or with pretty colored jewels or stones. These types of rings often come in sets of three or five and have a theme or overall look to the set. Or you can get creative and mix and match to see what cool looks you can come up with.

Denim Shirts

This trend is definitely not fresh and new but it is sticking around in the fall and I could not be happier about it. This shirt is incredibly versatile. I’ve worn mine with a skirt to work, with it open with a white tank and red shorts to run errands, over summer dresses and, my personal favorite, with black lace shorts. It looks great with just about any pants, although I would steer clear of the jeans-on-jeans look, as it’s incredibly difficult to pull off.

Cable Knit Sweaters

Last but not least, this fall trend is by far the most comfy. This is obviously not a new trend either, but cute, loose-fitting sweaters in all colors have been making a comeback as the weather cools down. Wear one with jeans, a flowing skirt or even over a dress to keep warm this fall.

Honorable Mentions: Jean jackets, maxi skirts, kimono jackets, tribal prints, turban style headbands
