Hey new freshmen ladies, welcome to Towson University! As you can probably already tell, the first few weeks of school are kind of stressful. But after surviving a hurricane, moving into your dorm or apartment, and going through new student orientation, you are ready to get out there and meet a brand new crowd of people! Here are some places you can meet even more new people:

Down the Hall (Literally!)

One place where you can meet new people is right in your own dorm. Make friends with other girls in your hall who share some of your common interests, such as television shows or style of music. Befriending people on your floor and in your building is a great way to build community, and it is also really awesome to see some familiar faces while walking around campus.

In Class

Another great place to meet new people is in class. If you have already chosen your major and notice that there are a few people who you have the same classes with, make an effort to connect with them. You can help each other out with homework, or even team up for group projects.

If you have yet to decide on a major, still branch out to other people in your classes to see what they are taking and how they like it. Opening your mind tonew people and new ideas might help you make decisions concerning your academic career path.

Get Involved

Joining a club, organization, athletic group, or academic group is a great way to meet people you can relate to. Social organizations such as sororities are awesome to get involved in because you can become part of a close-knit group of girls who also participate in philanthropic activities to help the community. Joining SGA or URG is a way to get your voice heard on behalf of your classmates. There is a group out there for everyone, but if you don’t find something you like, you can always start your own club or organization.

Parties

Parties are also an interesting place to meet new people, but there are some precautions you should take. Make sure that you always stay safe and party responsibly while you are out on the town. You do not want to be remembered as the girl who drank so much that she was sloppy and falling all over the place. You want to be remembered as the cool girl who likes to have a good time but isn’t all over every guy at the party.

You never know who you are going to meet when you are out, so dress classy- not trashy. It’s always fun to dance and have a good time, and there is always potential to meet new boys at parties. Just make sure you have some girlfriends there with you to back you up (or to bail you out).

On-Campus Events

Without a doubt, the best place to meet other new freshman is at on-campus events. The Campus Activities Board plans lots of fun things for new students to do, especially during these first few weeks of school. There is the involvement fair on September 7 which is a great place to gather information about student groups you can join (Like Her Campus Towson!). While you are out at these events, branch out and meet new people.

Meeting new people is all about being you, putting yourself out there, branching out, taking risks, and having fun. Every person you meet is a new door to a different world, and you never know what they might have to offer. Always be sure to jeep an open mind, and make your freshman year one to remember.
