I have known that I wanted to join a sorority since I was in eighth grade. I had grown up seeing my sisters play sports in college, and realized that playing one was not in my cards. When I was looking at colleges, I started looking towards the south where sororities are an honored tradition. The only thing is, no one in my immediate family has gone Greek, and so I tried to learn as much as I could about recruitment and the Greek system on my own.
Coming from a small school of around 400, I knew that I wanted to attend a larger college, and U of I has definitely given me that! I never felt like a number in high school, but in my few weeks on campus, I have felt lost in a sea of people I do not know. Going through recruitment is my chance to make a large, public university, smaller and feel more like home.
I am so thankful that I am going through recruitment with Rachel, my roommate! I feared that I would have to deal with all of the crazy times by myself, but I have someone who is going through the same process! I know that whatever sorority I join, whether Rachel is in it or not, it will be a good fit.

Ever since I can remember U of I have been a part of my life. My sister, father, grandparents, their brother and sisters, and family friends have not only attended the U of I but have been a part of Greek life. I have always wanted to pledge a sorority and become apart of the sisterhoods I have heard the older women in my family raved for years about. Coming to the U of I with such a rich and large Greek system I am so excited to go through recruitment.
Although I know recruitment is going to be a great new experience for me to have, I can’t ignore nerves and first time jitters we all get when we try something new. Fortunately, I have Annie as my roommate. Knowing that we will be going through this together makes it feel so much better.
The next couples of weeks we will be blogging out our recruitment experience!
Wish us luck! :)
