I may be in college now but I just can’t seem to get away from cafeterias. Cafeteria in Boston, that is. As the name clearly states, Cafeteria specializes in serving what they call cafeteria-themed food. That being said, they offer the standards: pizza, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and of course, the special item of the day. Luckily for all us diners out there these food items aren’t going to be the same frozen who-knows-what we all grew to love (just kidding) from elementary to high school. The menu is a “tray chic” spin on a variety of these comfort foods.

I decided to go for the Asparagus and Arugula Pizza made with fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, and veggies on top. I was a little wary before ordering because, for me, the dough is a major factor on how a pizza is going to turn out. Not to crunchy, not to light. The dough had a nice chew to it and didn’t have that charred taste that had me afraid. To top it off, the salty mozzarella cheese complimented the sweet, fennel infused sauce perfectly and the asparagus were nice and tender. No strings in my teeth!

So, if you’re looking for some cafeteria inspired comfort food head on over to Cafeteria on Newbury. Trade half of your sandwich with half of your friend’s pizza and think back to what it was like before college.
